A JetBlue flight from Boston to Las Vegas was forced to return to Logan International Airport on Monday night after reports of a “disruptive passenger.” But according to one witness, the situation was badly mishandled — and the man accused of being unruly was “sober and calm” throughout the flight.
Witness Says Crew ‘Overreacted’
Speaking with NBC Boston, a passenger who requested anonymity said he was seated diagonally from the 37-year-old Kentucky man who was later escorted off the plane by police.
“He was sober and never stood up once while we were in the plane, never raised his voice, never swore, nothing,”

The witness claimed the conflict began when the Kentucky man politely asked a flight attendant if he could move to an empty seat elsewhere on the aircraft.
According to the witness, the attendant said he would need to check with another crew member, which led to a second flight attendant storming down the aisle and confronting the passenger.
Exchange Escalates Mid-Flight
The situation reportedly escalated when the passenger indicated he would file a complaint against the crew.
“The passenger said to him, ‘Well, I’m going to file a complaint against you with JetBlue. I have all this recorded because you were going to file a false report against me,’”

At that point, the flight attendant allegedly ordered the plane to turn around while it was near Rochester, New York, forcing the aircraft to return to Boston.
The witness later shared a photo of state troopers escorting the man off the plane, calling the airline’s decision “absolutely ridiculous.”
“Look how much money they probably spent to turn that aircraft around,” he said. “Ruin this guy’s day. Ruin our night…”
Police and JetBlue Respond
According to Boston police, the man was non-compliant and verbally abusive toward the crew. He now faces a federal charge of interfering with a flight crew, NBC Boston reported.
Two additional passengers — a couple who attempted to defend the man — were also removed from the plane upon its return to Boston.
JetBlue confirmed the incident in a statement, emphasizing that passenger safety remains the airline’s top priority.
“Safety is JetBlue’s first priority, and we appreciate everyone’s patience while we addressed this situation,”

Flight Finally Lands Four Hours Late
After the passengers were removed, Flight 777 eventually resumed its journey to Las Vegas, arriving at 2:30 a.m. local time — about four hours later than scheduled.
The witness, however, insists the event could have been easily avoided.
“This didn’t need to happen,” he said. “The crew completely overreacted.”
Police have not released additional details about the Kentucky passenger’s condition or behavior, and JetBlue has not commented further on internal procedures regarding the incident.
