DALLAS, Texas — Flights at both Dallas Love Field and DFW International Airport experienced significant delays on Monday due to staffing shortages, according to the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA).
Ground Delays Issued by FAA
The FAA implemented a ground delay for both airports, meaning that all flights bound for North Texas were temporarily held at their departure locations before takeoff.
The advisory was set to remain in effect until at least 9:59 p.m. at Love Field and 8:59 p.m. at DFW Airport, the FAA said.
Average Delays Reported
At Dallas Love Field, flights were delayed by an average of 74 minutes, while DFW International Airport saw average delays of 21 minutes, according to FlightAware data.
The FAA had initially issued a ground stop for Love Field but later canceled it.
Impact on Airlines
Love Field serves as the headquarters for Southwest Airlines, which operates 18 of the airport’s 20 gates. As of 2:30 p.m., the airport reported 40 delays and one cancellation.
At DFW International Airport, the primary hub for American Airlines, there were 186 delays and no cancellations reported as of 2:45 p.m., FlightAware data showed.
Ongoing Staffing Challenges
This marks the second consecutive week that staffing shortages linked to the ongoing government shutdown have affected airports in North Texas.
Last week, the FAA issued ground delays at DFW Airport on three separate days, underscoring the continued strain on air traffic operations.
