Direct Service Launching June 2026
A quick summer trip to Hawaii will soon become much easier. Southwest Airlines has announced a new daily route connecting Ontario, California, with Honolulu, Hawaii, starting June 2026.
Daily Service Details
Southwest will offer direct flights between Ontario International Airport (ONT) and Daniel K. Inouye International Airport (HNL).
- Morning departure from Ontario
- Evening arrival returning from Honolulu
- Daily service beginning June 4, 2026
- Tickets already available for purchase
Ontario airport officials said the new route expands travel options for Southern Californians seeking an island getaway.
Impact on Southern California Travelers
Airport leaders highlighted that ONT’s smaller size and lighter crowds offer a convenient alternative to larger regional airports.
“It is truly a point of pride for us,” said Alan Wapner, president of the Ontario International Airport Authority Board of Commissioners. “We want all who come to Ontario to feel at home. To our friends at Southwest, mahalo.”
The route builds on Southwest’s nearly 40-year partnership with Ontario International Airport.
Competition and Convenience
Currently, Alaska Airlines operates a popular flight between the two cities. The new Southwest service adds competition and additional capacity during peak travel seasons.
Southwest officials also emphasized that the route will allow passengers to easily island-hop within the airline’s robust Hawaii network.
“We’re grateful to show them the way to Hawaii with Heart and a nonstop access into our expansive interisland network that offers nearly sixty departures a day within Hawaii,” said Andrew Watterson, Southwest’s Chief Operating Officer.
More Hawaii Expansion from Southwest
This announcement follows another major expansion last month, when Southwest revealed it will begin daily service between Honolulu and Hollywood Burbank Airport starting May 13, 2026.
These will be the first direct flights from Burbank to Hawaii in more than 20 years.
