A new low-cost path into the roomier Comfort cabin
Delta Air Lines has launched a new fare class called Comfort Basic, now available on select domestic routes. The option provides the most affordable entry into Delta’s Comfort cabin, offering extra space and added perks at a lower price point.
What Comfort Basic Includes
When booking flights, travelers will now see Comfort Basic listed alongside Comfort Classic and Comfort Extra.
This new tier includes:
- Extra legroom
- Free alcoholic beverages
- Reserved overhead bin space
- Zone 3 boarding
Comfort Basic customers will also receive benefits that Main Basic passengers don’t get, including:
- SkyMiles earnings
- Medallion Qualification Dollars
- Access to Delta lounges
Important Restrictions
The lower fare does come with limitations similar to Main Basic rules:
- Passengers cannot choose their seat; it is assigned after check-in
- No first-class upgrades allowed
- No same-day changes
- Cancellation fees apply
Customer Reactions to Comfort Basic
Comfort Basic marks Delta’s 12th fare tier across its five cabins. While some travelers welcome more flexibility, others feel the options are getting overwhelming.
One frequent flyer wrote on Reddit:
“Right now, having this many different class types is confusing as h–l for me and I fly around seven times a year. I can only imagine what it’s like for the average person.”
Others are embracing the chance for cheaper legroom:
“If you want extra legroom but don’t care about anything else, this is great,” another user commented.
Delta Plans More Fare Expansion
Delta says this is only the beginning. The airline may add Basic, Classic, and Extra versions of its premium cabins—mirroring the Main and Comfort cabin structure.
Delta president Glen Hauenstein said in July:
“I think the segmentation that we’ve done in the main cabin is the template we’re going to bring to all of our premium cabins over time. It’s all about giving people more choice, more pricing options, and more products and services in every cabin.”
