When two travelers book the same flight, they can receive vastly different carbon-footprint estimates from online calculators. 1. CO₂ Isn’t the Whole Story

If a calculator reports emissions only in kilograms of CO₂, it overlooks two significant components of aviation’s climate impact.

Carbon dioxide equivalent (CO₂e) includes CO₂ plus other greenhouse gases such as methane, measured according to their global warming potential. A calculator that reports only CO₂ underestimates the full footprint.

Non-CO₂ Impacts
