Huge Win for Families Traveling Across Europe
UK airline Jet2 has unveiled a major family-friendly update: children under the age of two can now fly for free on all its routes.
The new policy, announced on Friday, August 22, makes Jet2 the only UK carrier to scrap infant flight fees across both seat-only bookings and Jet2holidays packages.
Families can now take their little ones to destinations across Europe, the Canaries, and the Mediterranean without paying for a ticket—provided the child is still under two years old on the date of travel.
What Parents Need to Know
To use this benefit:
- Each infant must be accompanied by at least one adult on the same booking.
- Babies can travel on an adult’s lap or in their own seat if secured in a car seat.
- Jet2 allows an extra 10kg baggage allowance per child under two, which is added to the adult’s 22kg hold bag.
Parents also get additional perks:
- Two free items in the hold for each child (such as a pushchair, pram, buggy, car seat, booster seat, baby carrier, or travel cot).
- These items are not subject to the 10kg limit.
- Pushchairs and buggies can be used right up to the plane steps or air bridge before being placed in the hold.
How Jet2 Stands Apart
While Jet2 now offers infant flights free of charge, other major UK airlines still apply fees:
- British Airways charges a percentage of the adult ticket price.
- easyJet and Ryanair apply a £25 infant fee.
This puts Jet2 at the top of the league for budget-friendly family travel.
No More Fees on Infant Equipment
Jet2 also changed its baggage policy to support parents:
- Normally, checked bags over 22kg incur a £12-per-kilogram excess fee.
- However, this rule no longer applies to infant equipment, meaning collapsible buggies, prams, or travel cots can travel free—even if they exceed the usual weight limit.
Jet2’s Family-First Commitment
Jet2 CEO Steve Heapy highlighted the airline’s mission to make holidays easier for families:
“As a family-friendly airline and tour operator, we are always looking at how we can make the experience even better for families traveling with us.
By putting our customers first and making these changes, meaning that all children under two now travel for free whether on a package holiday or a seat-only flight, we are making travel even more accessible for millions of families.”
