Airline set to resume Red Sea routes beginning in 2027
Jet2 will restart flights to Egypt for the first time in 14 years, marking a major return to one of the UK’s most popular winter-sun destinations.
New Flight Programme Announced
Egypt’s government announced a 14-flight-per-week schedule connecting multiple UK airports to its Red Sea resorts.
The new service will begin in 2027.
Jet2 plans to operate routes to both Sharm El Sheikh and Hurghada, adding an estimated 169,000 extra seats for holidaymakers during the first year.
Why Jet2 Left the Region
The airline suspended flights to the Red Sea in 2011 due to political unrest.
At the time, the situation disrupted travel plans and frustrated tourists.
The relaunch marks the first official reconnection with Egypt since then.
Route Details
Sharm El Sheikh Flights (from 2027)
- 2 weekly departures from Birmingham
- 1 weekly departure from Edinburgh
- 2 weekly departures from Manchester
- 2 weekly departures from London Stansted
Hurghada Flights (from 2027)
- 2 weekly departures from Birmingham
- 2 weekly departures from Manchester
- 2 weekly departures from London Stansted
- 1 weekly departure from Glasgow (instead of Edinburgh)
How the Deal Was Finalized
The new services follow discussions between:
- Sherif Fathy, Egypt’s Tourism Minister
- Steve Healy, CEO of Jet2 Group
The meeting took place at the World Travel Market in London.
Why Egypt Remains Popular With UK Holidaymakers
British tourists continue to be a significant market for Egypt.
Travelers are attracted by:
- Affordable package holidays
- Year-round warm weather
- Renowned historical sites
- Red Sea beaches and diving spots
Jet2’s Statement
A Jet2 spokesperson said:
“As the UK’s favourite airline and tour operator, we continually review our flight and holiday programmes to ensure they meet the needs of our customers.
We are in the process of finalising a very exciting programme to Egypt, and we will communicate the details, including a fantastic launch offer, next week.”
Record Passenger Numbers for Jet2
Jet2 has reported a surge in demand throughout 2024.
The company carried 14.1 million passengers in the six months leading up to 30 September—an increase of 750,000 compared to the previous period.
Part of this growth is attributed to a viral TikTok trend featuring its tagline:
“Nothing beats a Jet2 holiday.”
The phrase has amassed more than 80 billion views across social media.
