Introduction

Copa Airlines, the national carrier of Panama, has grown significantly since its founding in 1947. After beginning as a domestic airline, the company transitioned into a fully international operator in the 1980s. Using Panama’s strategic geographic position, Copa has developed a strong network across North and South America.

Today, Copa is considered one of the most influential carriers in the Western Hemisphere. The United States plays a particularly important role, with the airline now connecting Panama City to 18 major U.S. cities.

Copa launched its first U.S. route in 1989 with service to Miami International Airport. Since then, the airline has steadily increased its footprint. In 2024, Copa scheduled more than 66,800 one-way flights, with more than 12,600 serving U.S. markets.
